She thought it was a date. He, on the other hand, was doing his best to make it “not a date” by inviting several friends. You see, Mateo and Alexis had known each other since college. He was the fun, easy to be around guy, she was the spunky little knows-what-she-wants kind of girl. And after years of living in Southern California, Mateo was in the throes of moving back North. So he didn’t want to fall for her. Yet despite all his attempts to keep his head down and get out of town, there was something undeniable about how he felt for her. And something about his efforts that she wasn’t buying. Alexis knew there was so much well worth hanging on to about him, and she was just the girl to prove his Peter Pan ways wrong. Since then, their love has done nothing but prove that home is where the other is. Northern and Southern California, and now New York City, their love is the kind that will take them happily anywhere together, and make the place they’re in the place they’re meant to be.
Alexis and Mateo, it was such a joy to document your love together, in a city that holds such a special place in your hearts and in your story together. And I had an absolute BLAST with you in the city, so thank you!! (They tried to buy my love by taking me to Fred’s for the best mac-and-cheese ever. It worked.) I love you both and I cannot wait for your wedding this November!
